About R|Artist Residency

This six-month residency offers an early-career visual artist the opportunity of space to experiment within their practice while also building their profile.

Currently in residence is contemporary artist Grace Herrmann whose main medium is paper carving. She cuts and peels away layers of thick paper board to create intricate, low relief artworks, building them up with shellac and inks to create lush, textural surfaces that reflect light to reveal semi-transparent layers.

Through this residency and in collaboration with Brisbane-based design agency Ancient Monkey, Grace is exploring the potential to use technology and digital animation to create new forms of work based on her paper carving.
