Meet your R|6.0 Facilitator

R|6.0 is going to be on steroids with Dr Hayley Linthwaite, Creative Provocateur, Transformational Facilitator, Executive Coach and Movement Practitioner at its helm.

Amidst the chaos and disruption of the modern world, Hayley moves people to create change. And when she says ‘move’ yes, having commenced her career as a physical performer, she does embrace a full body experience.

We asked Hayley 10 questions to give you insight into what she’ll bring to the program this year.

1. What excites you about coming to the Sunshine Coast to facilitate R|6.0?

I am a QLDer and I love supporting QLD initiatives. Most of my family live on the Sunshine Coast and when I visit I see such a vibrant artistic community and I love the idea of nurturing artistic endeavours in their community.

2. Why are incubator programs, specifically designed for creatives, so important?

Incubator programs for creatives are essential for fostering a supportive ecosystem that empowers individuals to explore their creativity, develop skills, build sustainable networks, and contribute to the overall growth and vibrancy of the creative industry. Not to mention how they contribute to the overall cultural and economic development of a region.

3. What do you think is the biggest challenge creatives face in growing a sustainable practice?

One of the biggest challenges I perceive, and I’ve personally experienced, is finding a balance, or managing the polarity, between artistic passion and the practicalities of running a business. Addressing this polarity requires a multifaceted approach – ongoing education, mentorship, networking, proactive mindset and ability to pivot.

4. When you look at the program design, what stands out to you?

I’m so impressed by the incredible tangible knowledge, skills and experience the presenters have and bring… there is so much to learn from all involved, and with the robust application process, I don’t doubt that there will be just as much to learn from the other successful participants who will make up the cohort.

5. What is the essential ingredient to making change and how will you bring this into R|6.0?

Imagination – before we create change, we must first imagine change. I will bring a belief in the capacity of each person to be able to imagine the world they wish to create and support them to create it.

6. You started your career as an artist, what motivated your change?

My path evolved and is continuing to evolve. I continue to bring my artistry into everything I do. I have an insatiable desire to learn and grow. My career is a continuous process of learning, adapting, and honing a diverse set of skills that build on each other. And there are still so many more skills I wish to pursue and develop. I genuinely embody change and adaptation. I never invite others into a learning experience that I have not explored myself.

7. What’s the one piece of advice you have received that you’ve followed, and it’s rung true?

The invaluable lesson that I am still learning is ‘near enough is sometimes good enough’. A perfectionist mindset inhibits so many opportunities to learn and grow. Inevitably you delay timelines, hinder collaboration and the opportunity of diverse inputs.

8. When you look at our region, what’s the opportunity for creatives that you see?

Community engagement and cultural authenticity, in a world of mass production and global advertising is gold. How can local homegrown bespoke offerings create supportive artistic ecosystems and meet the needs of local audiences? And in turn, how can they leverage digital platforms to reach global audiences? Another significant benefit of living and working on the Sunshine Coast is how the rich environmental aspects of a lifestyle living within fertile mountains, running rivers, and the ever-present ocean, can contribute to the overall wellbeing and creativity of humans.

9. What can R|6.0 participants expect to experience working with you?

Lots of fun, high energy, attunement, and engagement. I love to create environments where people feel safe enough to really take risks and meet their growth edges with curiosity and be open to the possibility of being pleasantly surprised.

10. What’s your advice to participants to get the most out of R|6.0?

Be curious – come ready to unlearn and learn, adapt and evolve, and embrace the unknown.

R|6.0 is an intense 10 week program designed to build participants’ capacity to grow their practice, gain visibility, understand their value and context, identify new markets, and position themselves as Southeast Queensland’s next creative leaders.
